I truly beleive that autonomous vehicles, or self-driving cars, will make the world a safer place and be hugely beneficial to society. The day that a widowed mother of four accidentally drove her Toyota SUV into a primary school classroom with 24 students was the day I started to believe in this new technology. An autonomous vehicle could be programmed to never drive into a school. This would have saved the lives of the two precious children killed in that horrible accident.
I have 20 years experience in advisory and assurance and have worked large transportation and utility companies, including Sydney Airport, Qantas, Jaguar Land Rover, General Motors (Holden), Ausgrid, PowerWater and WaterNSW.
I am also a big car enthusiast, with a love of motorsport and performance cars. Unlike many car enthusiasts, I believe that autonomy and loving cars can co-exist. A little like the way the horse became recreation once cars came along, so too human-driven cars will become a hobby for all to enjoy in the proper setting – a race track.
